TRIP TO BASSEIN FORT-14th August 2005
THE WEAVER"S PARADISE. This congregation of weaver birds nest was an an great sighting. MAny of them were active.

The Huge trees that speak history. THey are supposed to have been brought here by the Portuguese during 16th century. The fort is quite famous for these trees are in a good number. Their trunks are huge. - the BAOBAB tree or Monkey Puzzle tree. Adansonia digitata
Sunbirds nest which we saw as we went along. Its highly camoflauging and beautifully made.

The pied crested cuckooo was an excellent sighting. Isnt the greatest photo but has been shot using the camera fullest potential. We had a great look at the bird thru Adesh's Spotting scope.
My prized catch of the Day. THe peacock pansy. the third of the Pansy member for the day. They were in a good number and coming in open quite generously. Its on balsam.
We found a few of these on ur trail. THis one is the Migrating butterfly - Painted LAdy
The Fort is surrounded by huge boundary wall. One of the side of the fort onlooks the bassein creek. We didnt climb this time as the status of the walls were unknown and also the path.

This could be Malabar flat. Wil confirm soon.

The entrance to yester graveyard. We didnt go around much and hardly looked in the crevices and under rocks this time in search of reptiles nevertheless we found Mr.Broookes here.
A butterfly lover's delight. Belongs to One of the fabulous group of butterflies- the Pansy. ITs a chocolate pansy which were quite generous in number and appearence as well.
Lots of these fellows around. A cerulean butterfly on lia plants. Its yummy nectar plant for many butterflies.
The remains of this architectural beauty which u cant help not take a picture.A young on of an amazing bull frog. THere were plenty of them hopping around. THey have beautiful bright green color streaks on their back as if they grow lichen on them or have eaten some algae.
An beautiful mushroom. It was very well hidden in small groove of an broken branch. We also found a lot wooly bear moth caterpillars around it.
BEautiful windows on a magnificient piece of wall of the dilapidated Chapel.
